What it is

One wall, climbed the same worldwide

Every MoonBoard is built to the same dimensions and angle, with every hold in the same position and orientation. That's the point: a problem set on one MoonBoard climbs the same on every other.

  • Pick a problem in the free MoonBoard app (iOS and Android) and the LEDs light up the holds
  • Browse and filter more than 120,000 problems, from 6A+ (V3) to 8B+ (V14)
  • Set your own problems, log your ascents and work through the benchmarks
  • Choose a foothold rule, from feet-follow-hands to footless
Setups

Choose your setup

Each setup uses its own combination of hold sets, so each one climbs differently. Some hold sets appear in every setup; the newest sets only appear in the newest setups.

MoonBoard 2024

The newest full-size setup: 198 holds in a densely packed layout. Built at 25° or 40°.

2016, 2017 & 2019

The earlier full-size setups, each with its own hold sets and problems. Built at 25° or 40°.

Mini MoonBoard

The 2020 and 2025 Mini setups, for lower ceilings: about 2 m high, at 40° only.

Size & angle

25° or 40°?

40° is the classic MoonBoard angle and demands more strength and power. 25° puts more emphasis on footwork and is generally more accessible. Every full-size setup can be built at either angle; the Mini is 40° only.

  • Standard, 40°: 3.17 m high, 2.44 m wide, 2.35 m deep
  • Standard, 25°: 3.69 m high, 2.44 m wide, 1.55 m deep
  • Mini, 40°: 2.02 m high, 2.44 m wide, 1.57 m deep
  • Plus room for matting in front of the board

Questions

MoonBoard FAQ

Which MoonBoard setup should I choose?

The 2024 setup is the newest and has the densest layout, with 198 holds. The 2016, 2017 and 2019 setups each have their own problems. The MoonBoard app lets you browse the problems on every setup before you decide, and we're happy to talk it through.

How much space do I need?

A standard MoonBoard at 40° is about 3.2 m high, 2.44 m wide and 2.35 m deep, plus room for matting. At 25° it's taller (about 3.7 m) but shallower. For a lower ceiling, the Mini MoonBoard is about 2 m high at 40°.

Can I build a MoonBoard myself?

Yes. Moon Climbing's DIY kits include the holds, LED system and panels, and you build the frame yourself; it takes basic carpentry skills, tools and at least two people. We can supply the parts for your build, or build the whole thing for you.

Do you ship MoonBoard holds?

Yes. We ship MoonBoard hold sets, footholds and the LED system Australia-wide from our Melbourne warehouse. Shop MoonBoard.
